Whimsical Wishes offers expressions for every occasion — births, weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, showers and even a special thank you! With a classic yet whimsical quality, each of the designs are hand crafted using exquisite fabrics, ribbons, trims, patterns and embellishments setting the stage for the special experience that awaits. Whimsical Wishes takes the time to truly honor these occasions with creativity, thought and imagination.

It started as a hobby. Even as a very young child, founder and designer, Jess Rivkin Black, can remember hours of pondering the perfect plan for celebrating that special occasion. Whether it was her parent’s anniversary, the holidays, a friend’s birthday, or her sister’s wedding shower, she would concoct a wacky theme to fit the occasion and their personality.

Jess put her artistic abilities to work creating unique invitations, packaging, favors, and presents. Friends and family can attest to having been dragged through endless scavenger hunts or presented with an invitation to attend a surprise evening of festivities leading up to the actual present.

For Jess, it’s about the sentiment and the experience in receiving the sentiment in her own unique way. Over the years, her hobby evolved as friends and family turned to Jess to create special and unique sentiments for their celebrations.

Jess would sit down over coffee or lunch and discuss their hopes for the event such as colors, visuals, textures and more. She would live and breathe thinking about their vision to create a one of kind piece to capture the essence of the occasion.

Thrilled with the end result, friends and family started to refer their friends and family. Jess was excited about the interest and potential but at the same time, she was overwhelmed trying to balance the demands of a full time “corporate” day job and being a new mom. With much encouragement and support from her husband and loved ones, (who have all helped cut, glue and tie); she decided to take the plunge and follow her heart (putting her B.A. in Studio Art to work) and founded Whimsical Wishes in 2006.

Whether you are having a black tie affair or a beach side clambake, Whimsical Wishes offers a hand crafted and one of a kind design to compliment your celebration.

The arrival of a baby is a special and one of a kind experience. Ask about the “Coochie Coo” collection which includes birth announcements, thank you notes, children’s stationary, shower and party invitations — the perfect place to find that special something to welcome and honor your new bundle of joy.

Whether you are having a black tie affair or a casual party, there is a special design to celebrate the occasion and your bar/bat mitzvah.

Every party has its own personality. Let the invitation set the stage for what’s to come.

The holidays bring sparkle and magic as we celebrate months past and bring in the New Year. The holiday collection offers festive, vibrant and whimsical sentiments.

Whimsical Wishes’ correspondence collection offers fresh and playful designs for both adults and youth to compliment your personality and every sentiment..

Fleur-tatious Floral Design offers custom floral designs, fresh cut flowers, roses, plants, dish gardens, some beautifully potted orchids and a variety of giftware.

After spending the past 12 years working in the Financial Services industry at several of Boston's well known mutual fund firms, Christian Young decided to pursue a long term dream and open a flower shop. The timing worked out perfectly as Christian had just completed his education in floral design and florist shop management at Rittner's School of Floral Design in Boston. Rittner's School of Floral Design, operated by Dr. Steve Rittner, has been teaching floral designing for over 60 years.

The rose special from Fleur-tatious Floral Design is very popular. For $14.99 you get a dozen long stem roses with babies breath and greens wrapped with a ribbon. Giving someone special roses just because is wonderful gesture, especially when it is not expected.

Out of season Al’s buys only fruit sold by reputable suppliers. The jams from Al’s are made on site, and Al’s controls the freshness and quality in every jar.

Raspberry Rum is the top seller followed by Jalapeno Pepper. This year Al’s will be trying out some Wine Jellies. All are jams are made with local fruit whenever possible and when the local supply dries up we use fresh frozen.

Every jam recipe is a family recipe that has been around for years, starting with family in Prince Edward Island in Canada all the way to the hills of Maine!

You can find Al’s Backwoods Berrie Company in the Plymouth Farmers Market twice a month starting in June and the Old Rochester Farmers Market on Tuesdays at the Old Rochester Regional School on Route 6 in Mattapoisett. Growing up in the Caribbean, when Phil Walters was a youth, was as much about food as it was about pitching marbles or playing cricket. Walters and his friends picked cockles from the sandy shorelines and steamed them in a delicious peppery broth. They trapped crabs from the receding tide at dusk, netted sprats in the shallows and roasted them on an open coal fire sprinkled with salt and pepper. They even roasted cashew nuts ignoring the fact that we would end up with burned lips and blistered hands from the oils emitted from the shells.

That was then, and today the island Nevis is known for its exclusive boutique hotels, five star four season resorts and thirty-eight square miles of lush rain forest and beautiful stretches of white sandy beaches.

Phil Waters inherited his culinary skills from his mother. She was a terrific cook in every sense of the word. She was skilled in turning family meals into incredible experiences. Food was prepared in typical West Indian fashion, a little bit of this and a pinch of that, and never a written recipe as a guide. When she prepared a meal her hands were guided by instinct, insight, and love together with lots of imagination. The results were pure magic.

As early as Walters can remember, Saturday mornings meant going to the local market which was literally a stone’s throw from home. There they would buy the ingredients for weekend meals. The first stop usually was at Mr. Hendrickson’s butcher stall to pick up meat for Saturday’s soup (an incredibly hearty meal) along with a cut of beef for Sunday’s dinner.

Phil was usually able to convince the butcher to give him scraps of meat to take home for his dog Bowser. Occasionally he would bring a container to fill with fresh pig’s blood to make black pudding.

The next stop on the visit to the market was a visit to the “turn hands”, who were the ladies selling fruit and vegetables – essential ingredients for the family’s meals. A typical shopping list called for sweet potatoes, pumpkin, yams, dasheen, tania, carrots, Christophe along with herbs such as thyme, chives, onions some tomatoes and of course peppers – lots of peppers.

Bell peppers were used for seasoning and scotch peppers added flavor to soups and were the key ingredient for hot sauces. Walters still remembers his mother cutting, grinding and seasoning fiery concoctions without gloves, goggles or the benefit of other protective gear wear that is used today. Without protective eyewear she would be nearly blinded by the pungent fiery aroma of the sauce – but it was all worth it because in the end there emerged wonderful, flavorful hot sauces filled with goodness and love. Walters Specialty Foods Caribbean hot sauces are a tribute to Phil’s mother and you’ll love them as much as he does.

You must experience the culinary culture of the Islands through Walters Specialty Foods authentic Carib inspired sauces and fruit preserves.

The hot sauces are specifically designed to immediately tantalize your taste buds with a burst of flavor from the habanero and sweet peppers and the carefully selected herbs and spices. The heat that kicks in following that taste explosion will awaken your senses and make you feel warm all over but will not overwhelm your taste buds.

Dream Dinners is about families

Dream Dinners is about getting kids to school, a soccer game or band practice on time. Dream Dinners is about mothers who have too much to do and too little time to do it, about home, family and friends—the good times, the sad times and all the times we share with those we care about most. Food and families are at the heart of everything we do. From easy preparation to joyful participation, from a smiling face to a helping hand, Dream Dinners provides all the ingredients for a great meal.

Dream Dinners is a unique company founded on a mission of bringing families together around the dinner table. They provide everything you need to assemble great dinners to enjoy as you relax and talk about the events of the day. Dream Dinners offers freedom from the hassles surrounding the planning and preparation of meals night after night and gives friends and family an opportunity to come together in a fun-filled setting to assemble their Dream Dinners in a very short time just once a month (most make their meals in under an hour).

The Dream Dinners story

Named "the grandmother" of fix-and-freeze businesses by TIME magazine, Dream Dinners is recognized as the originator of innovative and convenient dinner assembly stores. Created by working mothers Stephanie Allen and Tina Kuna, the Snohomish, Washington-based company was the first to roll out this timesaving concept on a national scale.

Dream Dinners evolved from the homegrown practice of co-founder Stephanie Allen, a working mother who began making fix-and-freeze meals for her family in 1986. By preparing and freezing entrees using fresh raw ingredients, Allen improved on traditional pre-cooked methods, resulting in better tasting meals. She refined the process for efficiency and began developing a collection of specialized recipes.

Allen was showered with requests to share her secret method for timesaving meal preparation. When the demand became overwhelming, Allen enlisted the help of long-time friend and experienced business manager Tina Kuna. The partners hosted the first series of large-scale meal assembly sessions in March 2002, which became the catalyst for opening the first Dream Dinners store three months later.

Within six months, the company expanded to two new Seattle-area locations. By early 2003, the Dream Dinners concept attracted national media coverage, and the company began receiving thousands of unsolicited franchise inquiries from potential owners across the country. The partners expanded their business model and established a national franchise in June 2003. Allen and Kuna signed 35 new stores in the first six months, selecting from more than 6,800 applications.

In less than three years, Dream Dinners rocketed from a smart concept to a thriving national brand. Dream Dinners provides everything you need to assemble delicious dinners for your family, store in your freezer and serve in the weeks ahead. Dream Dinners supplies all the essentials, from easy-to-follow instructions to fresh, pre-cut ingredients.

The Yankee Candle Company - A True American Success Story

From humble beginnings ...

Christmas 1969. Seventeen-year-old Mike Kittredge, too broke to buy his mother a present, melted some crayons to make her a candle. A neighbor saw it and convinced Mike to sell the candle to her. With that small stake, he bought enough wax to make two candles - one for his mom, and another to sell. That was the birth of Yankee Candle.

To America's favorite brand of premium scented candles ...

Yankee Candle has become the #1 most-recognized name in the candle business and the country's best selling candle brand by sharing our customers' “passion for fragrance” in every product we bring to market.

Today, with over 150 fragrances, we offer the world's largest and most compelling selection of candle and home fragrance scents. In addition to our renowned Housewarmer® line of scented candles, we also provide a wide range of seasonal and specialty scented candles, home fragrance products, car fresheners and candle accessories.

The majority of our candles are made by master chandlers (candlemakers) in our advanced manufacturing facilities in Massachusetts. We sell our candles and other products through a growing nationwide base of over 500 company-owned retail stores. We also have a vibrant and growing catalog and online business, an expanding North American wholesale customer network (including approximately 19,100 specialty retailers in the U.S.), our Yankee Candle Fund-Raising division, and international distribution.

Today, the future looks bright for new growth and expanding opportunities as we continue to write new chapters in this true American success story.

THE SPOTLIGHT IS ON: The Book Shack & The Cupcake Shack

The Book Shack, located in the former 23,000 square foot Borders Books, in the Independence Mall, Kingston, is not your typical, mainstream bookstore. Bustling with energy, patrons can choose from thousands of great titles at discounted prices, listen to storytellers and lectures, be a part of author signings and workshops, and be entertained by comedy shows and musical guests.

The innovative concept, placing best sellers alongside value books and bringing an entertainment aspect to the space, was developed by Erik Christensen and Jason Zutaut, when they opened their first location in October of 2011. “We have had an overwhelming response from the community that a bookstore was opening”, says Christensen. The Book Shack fills the void left when many “big box” book stores have shuttered their locations across the country.

The Book Shack features “OnStage” an arena to showcase everything from best-selling author signings to nationally known musical guests. “OnStage” has the capacity for up to 250 spectators.

Christensen and Zutaut also recently celebrated the grand opening of The Cupcake Shack nestled within the store, adding a specialty bakery for patrons. Renowned pastry chef Phillip Caramello, of Food Network show Sweet Genius, will head the bakery, creating scrumptious cupcakes. These delicious treats will feature traditional flavors as well as unique flavors such as bananas foster.

Since the opening of the Kingston location, the duo has recently opened another Book Shack location, inside the Hanover Mall. The Book Shack is a wonderful place to EXPLORE thousands of great books at great prices, CONNECT over coffee and cupcakes with friends and family and LEARN something new from one of the many workshops or visiting authors. Check The Book Shack website,, for upcoming events at “OnStage”, or book your next birthday party or corporate function at The Cupcake Shack…or just indulge in a delectable cupcake while perusing the book selection.

When Angelo Tedeschi opened a small store out of his home in Rockland Mass. in 1923, he couldn’t have imagined that it would eventually grow into a company with nearly 200 stores! Tedeschi is a company that takes great pride in its past, and is also keenly focused on the future. Tedeschi will leverage technology to enhance your shopping experience, while offering you the products that you want, in a clean and convenient environment and will always do whatever it takes to ensure that they are your convenience store of choice!

Peter D. Tedeschi, President & CEO

Check out Tedeschi’s impressive history:

Angelo Tedeschi opens the first Tedeschi retail location in his home in Rockland, Massachusetts selling imported Italian meats and cheeses from his basement. Soon thereafter, Angelo starts peddling his products from the back of a meat wagon. The people of Rockland appreciate the personal service and quality products they receive from Angelo. ♦Opened first Tedeschi's

Angelo maintains a steady business in the throes of the Great Depression. He graciously extends credit to his customers who are struggling to make ends meet.

After surviving six months as a Prisoner of War during World War II, Angelo's son Ralph returns to Rockland with a Bronze Star for his service in the Army. He opens the first Tedeschi Super Market in Rockland with the help of his brothers Nick, William, and Bob as well as his brother-in-law Charlie Fitzgibbons. Angelo joins the team, operating the store's meat counter with expert skill. ♦Opened first Tedeschi's Super Market

Tedeschi Super Market expands their Rockland store and opens a new, even bigger store in Hanover. Customers enjoy the extra-wide aisles, express checkout counters, page boy carry-out services, and the "magic carpet" automatic doors. Moms in particular love the free babysitting service provided to let parents shop in peace.

Plymouth-Kingston is the home of the fifth Tedeschi Super Market, the largest market in New England at the time. The market boasts a snack bar, air conditioning, and a 145-foot refrigerated meat counter

♦ Largest market in New England

Brockton's new Tedeschi Super Market is known nation-wide as one of the best markets in the country. Innovative features such as fresh-cut flowers and in-store shoe and jewelry repair shops complement Tedeschi's wide assortment of brand name products. The store also offers a luxury customer lounge and a community function room with a kitchen that is available, free of charge, to local organizations.

Ralph sells all six Tedeschi Super Markets to Stop & Shop. Stores retain the Tedeschi name, and Ralph becomes a vice president at Stop & Shop. ♦Tedeschi Super Markets merge with Stop & Shop

The Tedeschi brothers open the first Angelo's Supermarket in Holbrook, one of the first markets to be opened on a suburban site rather than on busy "Main Street". Offerings include an in-store bakery, gourmet food department, and a full deli and seafood shop. Angelo's maintains the family practice of community service, donating financial aid and food to local organizations as much as possible. ♦First Angelo's opens

Angelo's Supermarkets acquires the Curtis supermarket chain, which includes 6 supermarkets, 3 mini-markets, and 24 Curtis Compact Food Store locations. All of the super and mini markets take on the Angelo's name, making Angelo's Southeastern Massachusetts' largest grocery chain.

♦Angelo's becomes Southeastern Massachusetts' largest grocery chain.

The Tedeschi family chooses to focus primarily on their chain of 53 convenience stores and sells their supermarket locations. Curtis Compact stores are re-branded as Tedeschi Food Shops, bringing the Tedeschi name back to storefronts and reminding customers that the name is synonymous with quality, value, and excellent customer service.

♦ Sells supermarket locations.

Sales throughout the convenience store industry are sluggish; Tedeschi Food Shops counteracts this by opening their first food-and-fuel location in Brockton, Massachusetts. ♦ Opens first food-and-fuel location

Tedeschi Food Shops purchases 64 Li'l Peach convenience stores, expanding the Tedeschi empire to a total of 134 stores. With this acquisition, the company becomes involved in franchising.

Purchases 64 Li'l Peach convenience stores

Making another significant purchase, Tedeschi Food Shops acquires eighty Store24 locations, expanding Tedeschi's presence into Rhode Island and Connecticut. The Tedeschi Select brand is introduced to stores and quickly becomes a top-selling line.

♦Acquires 80 Store24 locations

All Store24 and Li'l Peach locations are rebranded as Tedeschi Food Shops, creating unity among all stores. Gas pumps in Brockton, Fall River, and West Bridgewater now bear the Tedeschi brand as well, letting customers know that they're getting quality gasoline at a great price.

At 189 locations and growing, Tedeschi Food Shops is continuing to push the limits of what a convenience store "should" be. Providing customers with fresh food, innovative services, and community support, as the Tedeschi family has been since 1923, remains the driving force behind Tedeschi Food Shops

Mezza Luna Restaurant!

The Mezza Luna has been in business for over seventy years, under the same family ownership. It all began in 1937 when a woman named Speranza Cubellis, who was in the produce business at the time, decided to move with her husband Leonida Cubellis and their five children, Emilio, Louise, Sylvia, Guido and Gildo to Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts. Prior to this, Speranza had her business in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, but at this time, the produce business on Cape Cod was very profitable, so moving here was a wise investment.

They rented a building for fifty dollars a month. The building was so old that when it rained, more water came inside than outside. In three days, they set up a fruit stand. Business was tough. Main Street was a four lane highway and people had a hard time parking their cars because of how close the fruit stand was to the street.

Then WWII broke out in 1939 and produce, like everything else, was scarce. Luckily, Camp Edwards was in use and the Cape began to develop and prosper. At this time, with so much construction going on, many construction workers needed places to stay, so Speranza began taking in boarders, and as the old saying goes "what's a good hotel without a fine eating establishment?". Speranza and her old world recipes began to serve meals to the boarders, travelers, military and anyone else who wanted a home cooked meal. Don't forget spaghetti and meatballs at that time was only 35 cents. Imagine that!

Throughout the years, much reconstruction was done. The dining rooms and the Hickory Room Lounge were, at one time, where the Cubellis family resided. And then as time went on, the Cubellis children got married and had children of their own, and they lived here too. Eventually the restaurant was expanding and so were the families, so Speranza purchased the land surrounding the Mezza Luna so that her family would have places to live and land to build houses on, and this is exactly what they did.

On October 20, 2007 a 7 alarm fire ripped through the building and the Mezza Luna burned to the ground. The Cubellis family struggled with the loss tremendously, but with unconditional support from everyone in our family and in the town, we rose to the challenge of rebuilding. It was a long 15 months. Although the old Mezza Luna could not be recreated, some of the old building was salvaged and used in the rebuilding process.

In the end the building is new, but the family, recipes and staff of the Mezza Luna stayed the same. On November 1, 2007, ten days after the fire, Emilio Thomas John Cubellis III, Emilio's arrival shed a light during a very tough time.

The Mezza Luna is in the third generation of ownership, and continues to carry on the tradition of Nona Speranza by using the same recipes she used for her sauces and breads. But most of all, we want to give you the same treatment today that Speranza would have given you in 1937, authentic Italian entrees, impeccable hospitality, and to feel like you're at home.

Align Spine Chiropractic & Wellness helps patients achieve their optimal level of wellness through affordable and high quality chiropractic care. This is accomplished by patient education about chiropractic, proper nutrition, and exercise. The patient’s care transitions from alleviation of pain to wellness care in a calm and relaxing environment.

Chiropractic is a natural way to boost your health and wellness, as well as relieve any type of nerve, joint and muscle complaints. Joints in the spine can have restricted movement. This restricted movement causes pain, muscle spasm, and nerve interference. Nerve interference is not always felt unless there is a substantial impingement. This interference may diminish nerve signals to organs, bones, and the rest of the body. Therefore, chiropractors use adjustments to correct these abnormalities so the nervous system can function properly. In turn, this also relieves pain, including but not limited to, sciatica, low back pain, neck pain, headaches, numbness, tingling, extremity joint pain and much more.

Dr. Kevin Rheaume is a chiropractor serving the MetroWest and Greater Boston Area, which includes, but is not limited to Natick, Framingham, Wayland, Sudbury, Sherborn, Dover, Holliston, Wayland, Wellesley, Needham, and Newton. Align Spine Chiropractic & Wellness offers conservative, non-invasive chiropractic care that not only provides pain relief, but also offers wellness based care which can help to improve your overall health and prevent future issues from occurring.

Dr. Kevin Rheaume treats auto accident injuries, worker's compensation injuries, and specific bodily conditions (such as back pain, neck pain, headaches, disc herniations, numbness, tingling, or other spinal or extremity conditions). Special care is also offered for pregnant mothers.

Align Spine offers a specialized soft tissue technique known as Graston Technique(R). Graston Technique(R) utilizes patented stainless steel tools that are specifically contoured for certain areas of the body. The weight and design of the various instruments allows Dr. Kevin Rheaume to effectively treat deep tissue dysfunctions, while minimizing the stress experienced by the patient. Dr. Kevin Rheaume uses these tools to remove scar tissue, adhesions and fibrosis, which prevent fluid movement of muscles, tendons, ligaments and other surrounding tissues. Graston Technique(R) is an effective method of treating acute and chronic injuries, as well as a variety of other conditions.

People are recognizing the benefit of seeking an alternative to traditional medicine; one that will help them achieve and maintain optimal health.

To fully understand the nature of your health, Align Spine recommends that you join their free website membership program. As a patient at Align Spine Chiropractic & Wellness they will personally tailor a chiropractic and wellness program specifically targeted to your needs using the least invasive yet highly-effective techniques and services.

The SPOTLIGHT IS ON: The New England Bead Company

Owner, Anita Kratzsch’s first love has always been fashion, so after she graduated from Brandeis University with a degree in Fine Arts, she got a job with Priscilla of Boston. At the same time Anita studied at the School of Fashion Design in Boston. After leaving Priscilla’s she worked for herself as an eveningwear and bridal designer.

Along the way Anita began working with beads creating jewelry. Unable to find the perfect clasp for one of her bracelet designs, she decided to take some metalsmithing classes at The Worcester Center for Crafts so she could learn how to make her own metal components.

Anita really enjoyed making jewelry and thought that others might too. So she contacted the people at the Keefe Tech Continuing Education program to see if they would be interested in having her teach jewelry making classes. They said "Yes" and she’s been teaching there ever since.

Anita also began teaching classes for a woman that owned a bead shop in Mendon. A few years later she decided to go on to do other things and had asked Anita if she wanted to buy the business from her. At first Anita said "No" as her daughter was only 1 yr. old at the time. Then she decided to go ahead with it and purchased the shop. That was back in 2007. Eventually, she moved the shop to Ashland in July of 2010.

The New England Bead Company is a full service bead shop providing excellent customer service. The shop carries a variety of natural, crystal (including Swarovski), glass and metallic beads. They also carry findings, chain, stringing materials, tools, books and ready-made jewelry. Eggcetera, Etc. is a new, quick-service, create-your-own-meal restaurant that offers a fun and inviting "farm" atmosphere. The menu at Eggcetera, Etc. consists of omelets, French toast, pancakes, salads, stir-fry and pasta dishes. Guests design unique culinary creations by personally choosing any combination of add-on market-fresh ingredients from the farmstand. Ingredients include flavorful beef, chicken, seafood, fresh vegetables, fruit and much more. Once the ingredients are chosen, a friendly chef immediately prepares the customer’s dish right before their eyes! The possibilities are endless!

Owner Jessica Savin tells us that Eggcetera’s concept is refreshingly different! The omelets are filling, and they come with home fries and a regular OR sweet potato. Where else have you tasted sweet potato home fries?

Some of the Farm Favorites that have been created so far include: banana/chocolate chip pancakes, spinach/feta omelet, Texas French toast with a side of bacon and sausage, chicken/broccoli/mushroom alfredo over bow-tie pasta, shrimp Caesar salad, Caribbean mango stir-fry with Udon noodles, etc. All meals come with a delicious ciabatta roll or cinnamon raisin bread.

As soon as you walk in the door, you start creating your meal:

Step 1: Grab a frying pan to use as your tray

Step 2: Grab a cup to fill with delicious fixings from the farmstand

Step 3: Load up your favorite vegetables, fruits, meats, etc.

(Keep your cheese in a separate cup though, it turns out putting the cheese in an omelet after it’s cooked makes it really tasty!)

Step 4: Step up to the grill and watch as a chef prepares your scrumptious meal

Catering and Fundraising are also available at Eggcetera, Etc. Reserve the restaurant for a private party or request one of the talented chefs to attend an omelet station at your corporate or social event. The Donations for Dining program is an effective approach to generating funds for a good cause and rewarding as well.

Eggcetera, Etc. is open daily from 6:30am-3:00pm, and you can create any type of meal, any time of day. There is plenty of seating to dine-in or customers can get their food to-go. Eggcetera, Etc. is located at 665 Cochituate Road, Framingham directly across the street from the Red Roof Inn. Visit them online at and become a fan on Facebook for upcoming promotions.

THE SPOTLIGHT IS ON: LOCO'S Out of Your Mind Burritos

Bob Muccini didn’t actually start the Locos business, but he was a very faithful customer. Bob had heard from a number of people about the burritos and when he tried them, he was hooked and that’s what Bob hears from his customers today. Once they try it, they come back.

One day Bob went to get his burrito fix and found a “for rent” sign on the window. He left disappointed. He began to think about the business and whether it would be something he could do. All the store fixtures were still in place so he assumed the owners wanted to sell the business. He found out from the landlord that the owners had left to take over their family funeral home. All the pieces seemed to be in place. The product was great, the store had a great reputation, the product was very unique for New England and the location at 913 Washington Street in South Braintree is in a very busy area so Bob assumed he would get plenty of foot traffic.

Bob Muccini had a career in business as a Chief Financial Officer for a couple of high tech firms. He moved to Florida to do an IPO for a software company and came back to Braintree to do some high tech startup consulting work.

Five years ago when Bob bought the business, the economy was starting to collapse and his consulting work was drying up. He never ran a food business before but decided that a unique fast food business, selling food at the right price, could survive a down turn. In retrospect, it turns out he was right.

He contacted the owners to find out how much cooking was required, basically, could an accountant do it? He asked if they were ready to sell. As it turned out, the cooking knowledge was minimal and the owner was ready to make a deal. He was convinced that he wasn’t going to change a thing so he required that the owners work with him during startup, supply all the recipes and go shopping with him so he could buy all the same products. Nothing was going to change the food. Decorating and branding was another thing. As they say “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” and “the rest is history”.

Bob’s son, a marketing pro, helped him with a logo and advice to build a brand and 8 commercials. (they can be seen on the web site here). There were thoughts of franchising or opening more stores. Although the economy gave him cold feet, the thought still rolls around in his head! Bob’s daughter, with a great eye for decorating, came up with the store design, colors and special touches.

After a year or so, he was brave enough to add a few new menu items like chili, nacho supreme, quesadillas and tacos. Bob deliberately keeps the menu simple. He has a personal peeve with restaurants that have multiple page detailed menu items. He always thinks, ‘can all those items be kept fresh’ and, ‘who reads all this’?

Agway of Cape Cod began in 1993 as a small lawn, garden, and pet supply store built in Orleans by Peter Wile and his wife Susan. The Agway family tradition began in Northborough, MA where Peter’s father and farm owner Roger Wile opened an Eastern States Co-op farm and feed store in the early sixties. Eastern States developed into the Agway farm dealer network, as Roger’s son Peter took an active role in the management and operations of the store. Peter purchased the business from his father in 1983 and ran the business until he sold it in 1991.

Soon after, some good friends from Orleans convinced Peter that the Cape was in need of a good old lawn, garden, and pet supply store. Hence, the Agway family tradition continued as Peter moved to Brewster with his wife Susan and two children and opened the Orleans store at 20 Lots Hollow Road in 1993. Peter’s son Josh started his career early by loading cars with soils and mulch after school. The business soon grew and the Wiles installed the greenhouse for the Nursery Center at 10 Lots Hollow Road.

The Wiles’ venture continued when Peter purchased Arbor Way Garden Center at 686 Route 134 in South Dennis in 2000. Another six years later, he purchased the business Greensleeves Nursery at 1005 Main Street in Chatham. Now with three stores and nearly 100 employees during the busy spring season, the Wile family has settled in as a proud member of the mid- and lower-cape business communities. Operating the Orleans, Dennis, and Chatham stores as Agway of Cape Cod, Peter and Susan are still active owners. Son Joshua is General Manager of the three locations. Daughter Jessica helps with marketing and accounting as a manager in the business office. They have a great team of managers and employees that are dedicated to providing exceptional customer service.

The Wiles are proud to operate their Agway stores as a family business that is tied to the local communities. In addition to the retail operations, Agway maintains great relations with local non-profits and charities. They work with organizations such as the Animal Rescue League of Boston, Orleans Pond Coalition, Eastham Dog Owner’s Association, local Garden Clubs, hosting events and providing donations.

They are also active members in the Orleans, Dennis, Chatham, and Eastham Chambers of Commerce. Agway’s largest annual donation is their Mutt Mitt program. About five years ago, they addressed the issue of keeping our parks and beaches clean and promoting responsible dog ownership by donating dispensers and cases of Mutt Mitt dog waste pickup bags to local towns and organizations. This program has grown into Agway’s largest community donation program, totaling to over $5,500 per year.

Agway of Cape Cod and the Wile family are dedicated to providing its customers and the community with quality service, and hope to continue the tradition for years to come.

Shutter Up was started because when Claire Ditommaso purchased a Fabric-Insert Shutter, and had to make the inserts. "Necessity is the mother of invention", and so it began--a business selling Shutters. The name Shutter-Up evolved from "Shut Her Up" with shutters by Claire, but Claire knew that some women would be offended by that so after repeating it many times over, SHUTTER-UP was launched in 1984!

The heart and soul of Claire’s business is repeat customers and referrals. Anyone can sell you a shutter ,but not anyone can install it properly. Service is my number one priority, and that coupled with quality products is a "client pleaser".

Shutters are the number one seller, followed by a full line of Hunter Douglas products, custom draperies, cornices, roman shades, bedspreads, dustruffles, pillow shams, reupholstery, slipcovers, and decorating advice.

Although they settled in the town of Abington almost 15 years ago, the McHugh's are actually a third generation fishing family. A career that started with fishing in the frigid waters off the Canadian coast and over the years has migrated south to the waters of Cape Cod to lobster commercially.

Whether it is a ground-fish, swordfish, salmon or dry sea scallops all of the Lobster Barn's fish are "Top Of The Trip" selections. The Lobster Barn's commitment to freshness is second to none. Once you have experienced the freshness difference it is easy to understand why many of our customers travel great distances.

Fred and Dianne McHugh’s attention to the quality and freshness of all our products is a top priority. They personally pick up and examine almost everything sold at the Lobster Barn. Much of their product comes from connections formed during a 25 year fishing career.

Their present location was built over 140 years ago and was a working farm for much of the first 100 years. Lobster Barn is continuing its working tradition today. The Lobster Barn was founded over twenty years ago to sell some of the groundfish and lobsters directly to the public from their commercial fishing endeavors.

It doesn’t make much sense, a Greek/Irish kid from Framingham owning North End Treats of Framingham, however, Mike O’Neil has the right support! Mike’s wife Stephanie Bova-O’Neil and his partner Dan Torchio, are both Italian.

For years Mike and his father in-law, Anthony Bova of Bovas Bakery in the North End on Prince St. (open 24hrs) talked about where a good spot would be, to open a location. Mike felt comfortable in Framingham and when the liquor store that had been there for 45 years moved he jumped all over it!

Nearing a 1 year completion Dan and Mike worked on the menu (Dan cooked, Mike ate!) Mike always knew it would be a perfect fit because Dan was one of his best friends and he was the only one Mike knew growing up who would cook a sauce, otherwise known as "GRAVY" on a Friday night instead of going out.

Dan brought a lot of his family recipes and his own ideas for the food end, while he trained in Mike’s father in-law's bakery where he learned the secret recipes that had been there for over 75 years, bringing together a wide range of Italian heritage.

At North End Treats we offer Brick oven pizza from traditional to our signature, Panini’s, wraps, hot foods such as eggplant, chicken parmesan, chicken ziti and broccoli, and of course all the top selling baked items from the North End such as cannolis, lobster tails, whoopie pies, tiramisu etc. Everything is made in small batches, fresh daily. We also offer catering!

Bon Appetite!

Serene-Scape is GOING GREEN!!

At Serene-Scape, they use all natural hair color and hair products on their clients. Some people think that this may mean the product is not as effective as most, but that is not the case! The color used has keratin in it which actually helps improve your hair’s quality as it colors, where most take that away. At Serene-Scape, the styling products are pH balanced to your hair’s natural level which means every product you use from your shampoo to your styling paste, are constantly working to improve your hair’s texture. Serene-Scape takes pride in the fact you will NEVER see their products in a grocery store or pharmacy, so you know that you are getting what you pay for, and the quality of these products will always be what they were from the first time you used them.

All of the staff at Serene-Scape is fully trained in their area of expertise, and the whole staff takes classes throughout the year to make sure they are up to date with what they need to know to keep their clients happy. If there is something that a staff member does not know or are not 100% sure about when they see you, they will find out the answer for you and make sure to follow through to insure you receive exactly what you are paying for every time you come in.

THE SPOTLIGHT IS ON: Annie’s Book Store

Dave and Shirley Peterson did not anticipate that they would become successful entrepreneurs that afternoon in June, thirty-one years ago when they walked into their first Annie’s Book Store. As they strolled in between the shelves of gently used books, they looked at each other and just knew that this was it. Three weeks later, the Peterson’s opened their very own Annie’s Book Store in Raynham, MA.

Many of their friends and family thought that they were crazy for opening up a used books store. They might have been right. For the first several years, like any start up business, it was tough going.

Getting customers was their first priority. Dave and Shirley did not have a big advertising budget, so they would travel around the local neighborhood with their children and tape flyers for the store on local mailboxes. In those early days, if the store made ten dollars of profit in a day, in was very exciting!

Over the years, the Peterson’s store has evolved to include offering new best sellers, audio books, special occasion cards, balloon bouquets, and a large selection of Melissa and Doug products. In addition, Annie’s Book Store also offers balloon decorating for all types of functions including proms, weddings, parties, etc. The balloon delivery and decorating has served to differentiate Annie’s Book Store from their local competition.

Dave and Shirley spend the time to get to know the people who frequent their store. This personal touch serves them well, as they have many repeat customers, whom they know by name.

Spotlight on Jazzercise, Owner – Barbara Lang

Jazzercise started in 1969 and Barbara Lang joined in 1984 as a student while owning Dance On With Barbara Lang dance school, teaching young and old ballet, tap, jazz and kindergym.

As a member of The Dance Teachers of Boston, Barbara saw a Jazzercise demonstration and then found a class in her home town area. Right from the start, she knew she wanted to become an instructor….combining the fun of dance while increasing strength and heart muscle. One of Barbara’s first interviews was with the girl who gave the demo, she had brought Jazzercise to Massachusetts. It is a franchise with the Corporation based in California.

After months of training and passing the Instructor Certification, Barbara opened up her first class at The First Church in Weymouth. Jazzercise is starting the 27th year in the same Weymouth location. Barbara’s daughter Kris Canniff became an instructor in 1992 after graduation from U. Mass, Amherst before attending Newbury College for Physical Therapist Associate Degree. One of her students, Shannon Gordon, became an instructor and started teaching October, 2008, while Barbara was recuperating from rotator cuff surgery.

There are three morning and three evening classes with three instructors covering low and high impact aerobic dance routines. Choreography (styles of Rock n’Roll, kick boxing, country, jazz dance etc.) is from California, including a wide variety of music from pop, rock, hip hop, Latin, R & B, etc. Customers attend for different reasons: fitness, health, mental and social; no dance background needed…..just move.

The class has many ages (teens-80’s), fitness levels and body types smiling on the dance floor. The 55-60 minute class includes warm-up, aerobic curve of 25-30 plus minutes, and strength conditioning for abdominal, arms and legs and stretching incorporating yoga and pilates movements.

Many customers comment on the fun of Jazzercise while getting a full body workout—a combination of success and sweat. The program stays up to date with fitness, music and dance movements. Families, friends and new acquaintances moving to the same beat!

Sharing the joy of dance and fitness through Jazzercise is a great reward for Barbara!

Precision Time, A Rich Legacy of Excellence

As a young boy in Argentina, Hugo Fraga was fascinated with timepieces and especially the intricate motors that lay at the heart of every watch. For more than 30 years he perfected his skills as a watchmaker and technician, training his young sons along the way. After immigrating to the USA in 1977, Hugo turned his passion for watches into the American dream by opening the family's first full-service watch store in 1982.

Over the years, the family realized there was a growing need for accessible, high-quality watch repair and the first Precision Time was born. Their plan to combine the convenient location of mall kiosks with the technical expertise the Fragas are known for quickly became a huge success. Today there are nearly 100 locations across the country and Hugo's sons and grandsons continue to share their craftsmanship and passion for watches with ever our growing Precision Time family.

Expertise and experience are part of our heritage. When we say we're “The Watch Experts,” we mean it!

Lee Spinale Rea was a big fan and frequent user of Edible Arrangements at her previous job. She always said that she should own a store since she loved the product so much. When Lee decided to retire from her Business Development career she looked into Edible Arrangements. After several months of waiting she was notified that there was an opening for a franchise in her area! She jumped at the opportunity because she believed in the product and she could see the potential for growth, and it has been great!

Over the last 5 years Lee’s store has continued to grow at a steady pace. Over 45,000 happy customers have been served! Her favorite part of owning the store is seeing that constant happiness on the faces of her customers and recipients as well as all the wonderful notes she receives complimenting the arrangements and her fantastic staff. Lee loves being able to provide fruit to all the many charities and fundraisers as well.

A favorite moment was one Valentine's Day week when Lee realized that her staff had produced and delivered over 750 arrangements without a single bump in the road. It was so exciting watching the enthusiasm and excitement of accomplishing a major team goal. It was awesome!

Over the past 5 years Lee’s Edible Arrangements store has contributed almost $10,000 in charitable contributions to the local community. Her store supports the local elder communities, volunteers, schools, churches, private fundraisers, VNA of South Shore, and many, many more. This is also one of Lee’s favorite parts of owning an Edible Arrangement franchise; helping others raise money for so many great causes.

Lee has lived in Hanover for 25 years. She is a 5th generation Bostonian and grew up in the city which she is very proud of. She has one son who was instrumental in the successful opening of the store.

Lee has an open door policy with all of her customers. She keeps her business card and cell number on the front counter and welcomes any correspondence with suggestions or questions. Most of the staff has been with her since the beginning or close to the beginning so they are highly trained and motivated to give all customers and recipients a great experience!

The Spotlight is on Sel De LaTerre!

Prior to opening Sel de la Terre in the spring of 2000, Chef/Partner Geoff Gardner spent eight years as the sous chef at Boston’s prestigious L’Espalier restaurant, where he immersed himself in the teachings of his mentor, L’Espalier’s Chef/Proprietor Frank McClelland. McClelland and Gardner envisioned the opening of a rustic French brasserie, where they could serve seasonal and locally grown Provençal-inspired cuisine in a casual setting. They agreed the perfect first location would be the beautiful and ever-developing downtown waterfront area of Boston.

In the spring of 2000, they realized their dream with the opening of Sel de la Terre. At the helm of Sel de la Terre’s kitchen, Chef Gardner always practices the service philosophy and cooking techniques he learned working with Chef McClelland at L’Espalier, all which quickly helped Sel de la Terre become one of Boston’s most highly-acclaimed restaurants and to earn such impressive accolades as “Best French Restaurant” by Boston Magazine in 2003 and 2004 and 100 Hottest Restaurants in the World by Condé Nast Traveler. In September 2007, Chefs McClelland and Gardner presented their slice of Provence to the suburbs, with the opening of a second Sel de la Terre in the brand new wing of the Natick Mall. Soon after, Sel de la Terre - Back Bay opened its doors on Boylston Street in Boston next to its sister L’Espalier, which together form one spectacular dining destination in one of Boston’s most prestigious neighborhoods.

The rustic simplicity of our cuisine is inspired by New England’s proud agricultural and maritime heritage. We go to great lengths to support the local farmer and fisherman. We are grounded in the intent to marry the technique of southern French cuisine with local, hearty and fresh ingredients. We even source much of our produce from our own Apple Street Farm, operated by Frank McClelland in Essex, MA.

Each Sel de la Terre kitchen is chef driven. We believe that giving our chefs the culinary freedom to interpret our longstanding philosophy using inspirations from his personal history is the key to offering the best food possible. We are proud to give our talented chefs this culinary independence and they give us the confidence that every customer is thoroughly satisfied no matter where they enjoy our cuisine.

Located in the beautiful downtown waterfront area of Boston, Sel de la Terre is situated right next to the New England Aquarium and is within walking distance of Faneuil Hall, Government Center, the North End and the financial district

Located between Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom, Sel de la Terre Natick is situated within The Natick Collection, a newly constructed upscale shopping destination west of Boston.

Our newest Sel de la Terre! Located adjacent to the five star Mandarin Oriental, Boston and next to its sister restaurant L'Espalier, Sel de la Terre on Boylston Street is pleased to offer its signature French-Provencal cuisine to the sophisticated and modern Back Bay community.

The SPOTLIGHT is on  American Kempo Karate Academy!

American Kempo Karate Academy (AKKA) is a professional martial arts school that started in 1995 by taking over an existing martial arts school that was established in 1983 in Weymouth, MA. AKKA's founder Mark DiNino started training at the original school in 1984 at the age of 13. He quickly learned that martial arts training was not just about physical fighting but about personal power and self development. Mr. DiNino saw an opportunity to enhance people through martial arts training by becoming an instructor and eventually the owner and founder of a new organization. He then saw another opportunity to improve martial arts school business systems which would dramatically increase the quality of the martial arts training experience for the students.

AKKA's focus is building self confidence in both kids and adults. Their training programs build "Skills For Life". As students get in better physical shape and develop practical self defense skills with the guidance of the instructors, they build up their self confidence. The training is also a tremendous stress reliever which allows people to handle their life situations more effectively. The goal oriented training with all these great benefits keeps students motivated to continue.
